Canvas Corp Brands, a US manufacturer of craft supplies, is excited to announce their sponsorship of the 2014 Winter Renegade Craft Fair. The Renegade Craft Fair began as a place to host and highlight independent artisans and craft businesses and has since blossomed into the nation's largest DIY/craft fair. "We chose to sponsor RCF because we believe in their mission of advancing independent artisans," says Christine Meier, owner of Canvas Corp Brands. "We also found a commonality among our company and RCF makers--a commitment to quality, handmade products. Many people don't know, but the majority of the products that we produce are handmade right here in our USA factory." Despite having a commonality, however, Canvas Crop Brands also serves as an affordable resource for makers and independent artisans. "My husband and I started Canvas Corp Brands nearly 7 years ago, so we understand the financial burden of running your own business. We want to be a reliable resource for these independent business owners when it comes to packaging, marketing, booth display, product development etc. We have a breadth of products that are not only available at an affordable cost but also are made with high attention to detail. It is our hope that RCF makers turn to Canvas Corp Brands for items such as tags, cards, canvas and burlap blanks, etc." [caption id="attachment_7432" align="alignright" width="300" class=" "] Vendors at the Renegade Craft fair (Photo from Renegade Craft)[/caption] Canvas Corp Brands will be sponsoring the makers and indie artrepreneurs in this years winter fair. They've custom designed a burlap and canvas tote bag that will be given to each vendor in all participating US Cities. The bag was designed by Meier and is sized 16" x 18" with one side containing ivory burlap and the other 14 oz. canvas and is further customized with the RCF logo. Located on a little island off the coast of Washington, you'll find a sweet, caring and incredibly talented individual, Sally Moore. Sally is the owner and creative brain behind Sally by the Sea, an Etsy shop dedicated to handcrafted tea towels, pillows and more. We spoke with Sally to hear more about her business and were pleasantly surprised to hear about her journey. Q: Why did you begin Sally by the Sea? A: In 2009, I left my day job and was looking for something unique to do on the island, but I didn't have a lot of talent. I wanted to combine something I loved with something that I was good at, and that something was painting. One Saturday I attended a local farmer's market and got the idea to make hand-painted tea towels, and the rest is history. Q: How has your business expanded since you began? A: My business has grown so much since I first started. On the island, plastic bags are not given out in stores so I expanded to hand-painted totes. My line now includes wine bags, tote bags, pillows, and tea towels. Q: What inspires the designs on your products? A: My surroundings inspire the designs. I have quite the view when I wake up and look out my window, it's rather spectacular. Most of my designs are related to Lopez Island where I live and things that make me smile. Q: Since you've grown, do you still do everything by hand? A: I've outgrown my living room, so I moved to my backyard and created an office where I now have my own screen-printing studio. The designs are still hand painted and then screen-printed onto the items. However, the handmade aspect is very important to me, so I make sure that every piece is still hand-painted. After they're screen-printed I paint over the artwork to ensure that each item is different. Q: What has been the highlight of running your own business with handmade products? A: Running my own business is great because it makes me excited to get up every day. I know I'm doing something for me and I'm doing something for the economy. Q: How has Canvas Corp Brands helped you grow? A: They've definitely been a huge help. If it weren't for Canvas Corp I'd still be printing on tea towels. If anything, they've given me many more ideas on items to screen-print on and have expanded my product line. Q: Where can we get your amazing products? A: I sell through many retail stores on my island but I also have an Etsy shop and a Facebook page where consumers can purchase. Thank you Sally, for telling us about your inspiring journey. We are so glad we could be apart of the process! If you're a maker who is interested in creating your own line of products, we'd love to help! Send us an email today to see how we can work together!Read More
Creative Merchandising Ideas for the Craft/DIY RetailerRetailing today is not just about the products you buy, it is about the way you display it, what you display together and how you inspire your customers. Our eclectic mix of products challenges us to come up with creative ways to display our goods and we wanted to share some of these ideas with you. The consumer is changing and that is driving us to be more creative, more visual and more inspiring. Here are 10 simple ideas you might want to try: 1. Find Your Voice Many store fixtures and display units are very commercial and have little personality. There are many trends in the market including rustic vintage, colorful vintage, industrial, casual beach, repurposed, all white, all black, bohemian, minimalist, etc. Choosing a style will make creative merchandising easier and more fun. If your retail space requires the use of the fixtures, don't shun them. Rather, embrace them in the new style. How? Faux paint them, paint them all one color or color each one a bright and fun color and change the dynamics of the space. Adding display tables, signage and other small details will allow you to start bringing your style to life. 2. "Un-dress" Products Consider displaying products out of their original packaging, creating a more one of a kind, handmade look. Tie them with ribbon or jute that represents your style and add a handmade price tag. If the retail package offers valuable information, make a sign or print a small card that is added to the tied product. [caption id="attachment_7350" align="alignnone" width="300"] Another option to displaying product out of packaging.[/caption] 3. Use Found Items as Displays Display goods in unusual containers such as old crates, boxes, tin cans and other found or vintage pieces. You can leave them as they are or paint them. These can be displayed on entry tables. [caption id="attachment_7347" align="alignnone" width="600"] We found this vintage tray at a flea market for $1! It was the perfect fit for an assortment of 7Gypsies metals, embellishments and ephemera.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7364" align="alignnone" width="600"] Use vintage wooden crates to neatly display product.[/caption] 4. Make Space If space for products is limited or if you have run out of room on your fixtures, feature items on unusual objects such as windows, shutters or even an old screen door. Simply add nails or thumb tacks and your are ready to hang products. [caption id="attachment_7370" align="alignnone" width="570"] You can make your own, or purchase shutter displays off of Etsy.[/caption] 5. Pack on the Paper Paper is a hot selling item. For stores that are not traditional scrapbooking stores loaded with great fixtures to hold 12x12 papers, there is a dilemma on how to display them. Before investing in large paper rack fixtures, consider the following ideas:
- Hang one of each paper from a banner of jute and clothespins, keeping the rest of the inventory in a box.
- Display them in a crate or box that holds 12x12 or larger, separating them with paper dividers or 12x12 file folders. Customers can shop like they would a record album back in the day.
- Display them on vintage hangers and hang
- Purchase stackable 12x12 paper holders that are easy to move around, add to display tables and you can adjust the number of trays in the stack.
- 12x12 paper is not just for scrapbooking anymore, it is an essential part of the new DIY trend, so finding fun ways to display in your store is essential!
Canvas Home Basics has added to their ever expanding line of product with an exciting new collection inspired by culinary designs of the past, Farmhouse Kitchen. What started as a tag for a homemade gift has grown into a new collection that embodies all that is Farmhouse-- rustic decor, the country kitchen, vintage cookware and bakeware, etc. Our inspiration came from the idea of simple gifts and food that comes from a place of warmth and love-- the kitchen. This inspiration enabled us to design a product line that captures the essence of creating and gift-giving, whether that be homemade goods or handmade gifts. This collections steps us away from many of our traditional releases with many new products that take you beyond scrapbooking, card making and paper crafts and into a broader spectrum of creativity.
Card Stock PapersThe card stock papers are printed on kraft and ivory base papers and mix and match beautifully. They'll also coordinate with any color palette and allow you to add color to the artwork (of course we suggest Tattered Angels Paints).
Cards and MoreFor the first time, we've included specialty items such as panel cards, thank you cards, recipe cards and our favorite, a printed canvas panel. We wanted to be sure to include all the elements needed to host a party, give gifts, store recipes and more.
TagsWe've introduced a line of tags that focus on gift giving with 10 of the same tags per pack so that you can create your homemade items with the tag of your choice.

7gypsies is so excited to launch a new creative concept for every-day journaling, Gypsy Moments. We found ourselves seeking an instant, yet creative way to document the little moments that present themselves in the uniqueness of our one of a kind lives— points in time that make us blush, grin, smirk, tear, think, breath, dance, dream, wish, sigh and help us realize who we are. Thus, ‘Gypsy Moments’ was born. The emphasis of this collection is to incorporate a vintage theme into every-day journaling. For example, the collection includes pre-designed cards that capture how we are feeling at the moment, file folders that organize those moments and vintage crates that store the moments on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. And of course the line also includes tags, papers, naked items, charms and ephemera that can be used to embellish. Gypsy Moments are also meant to be shared and to help shape the lives of others. Fill out a Gypsy Moments card and add to a greeting card or slip it onto a co-workers desk at just the right moment to make their day.
